A Few Thoughts on a Long Weekend

  • Some surprising news digging into Bill 17 – Building Faster and Smarter Act, 2025. You can find a good summary of the proposed changes to the building code, development charges and more here. One of the bullets states the following:
  • This was the crux of my Hunter Prize Finalist proposal in 2024. I don’t know if it was coincidence or if the gov’t read my proposal but it looks like I have influenced housing policy in Ontario!
  • Walking Izzy today the are disassembling the crane on the Canadian side of the Gordie Howe Bridge.
  • Meanwhile at the Ambassador Bridge a project information centre is being established with signage going up over the long weekend.
  • What project is coming to West Windsor?
    • Well the Ambassador Bridge is demolishing the ramp. The plaza that I talked about in my Janes Walk from 2024 talked about the future plaza that is coming.
    • Mayor Dilkens at the Ward 2 meeting last fall talked about how the City was closer than ever before to a agreement with the Ambassador bridge around the vacant homes (and in turn the plaza).
      • What land is swapped?
      • Are we getting a new fire station?
      • Which roads are getting fixed?
      • A Sandwich towne fund?
    • Are these “benefits” at the expense other projects that were planned for West Windsor? Will this just be used to free up money for projects in other parts of Windsor or keep the tax rate at a certain level?

Keep an eye out for a few more thoughts over the coming weeks.
