Mayor Amy Martin has Norfolk County in her blood. A Norfolk County native, Martin graduated from Port Dover Composite School before attaining her degree in Psychology at York University in Toronto.

Upon earning her degree, Martin returned to Norfolk where she worked in the not-for-profit sector across Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk Counties. Amy currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Port Dover Foundation. In 2018, Martin began a four-year term as Ward 6 Councillor and went on to be elected Mayor of Norfolk County in 2022. When she’s not serving the public, Martin and her husband Andrew enjoy what Norfolk has to offer by attending local events, tasting area foods, and visiting breweries and wineries within the County.

– Briefly reintroduce yourself.

– Last time you were on CC, you were the Ward Councillors for Port Dover, now you are mayor. Bring us up to speed! Talk a bit about why you ran for Mayor and the campaign

– You won the election,. talk a little bit about the jump from Councilor to Mayor – did it reframe some of the work you had previously done? How did it shift your views (if at all) on particular issues?

– We can’t not talk about the Housing Crisis. Last time we talked Port Dover had gone through a planning amendment, but there were challenges around Water capacity. As of April 11, the provincial tracker has Norfolk County at 4% of it’s 2024 goal. Recent urban boundary expansion debate. How do you feel is the region adapting to the Housing Crisis?

– You had a “status quo” budget in 2024 with a 6.2% tax increase. What does status quo mean? Often budgets are framed as if you aren’t growing you are falling behind and if you aren’t cutting you aren’t saving the taxpayer.

– What is something you are looking forward to this year that is happening in Norfolk County that people should come out to or be excited for?
